Launch of documentary

I would like to invite you to the start of the Sustainable Urban Delta Foundation and the launch of its first documentary The City and the Green Belt.

Coined at a conference in October 2012, where I encouraged people to look at the Netherlands as one big city with an integrated green belt of food production. Just picture a big city, that is able to produce more food than it needs. The Dutch didn’t plan this design. They didn’t have a choice, being with just too many on too small a plot of land.

It is not too late for a positive change. I hope you will join us.

It’s a fact that more and more people are living in cities. What if these big cities could integrate green, food producing belts in urban areas? Instead of pushing their green belts further and further away with their growth?

Over the years, the idea of the Sustainable Urban Delta became more and more relevant. The way food is produced and transported is often inefficient and has a major impact on climate change. Reinforced by inappropriate subsidy flows, this not only causes a lot of injustice and waste, but also a shortage of fresh and nutritious food for many people.

A food-producing city is a livable city. It will boost entrepreneurship, social coherence and create a green living environment. A rewarding perspective for a better quality of life, solving many environmental problems!

As the CEO of Priva, a technology company for climate control and water- and energy solutions. I have travelled the world. I was inspired by our customers, city governments, architects, real estate developers and entrepreneurs and I have seen great initiatives that show that it is feasible to produce healthy food in urban areas.

We’re not far from food-producing cities, but a catalyst is needed. That’s why I created the Sustainable Urban Delta Foundation. It will inform, orchestrate and stimulate the best efforts and ideas to build a sustainable future. We will partner with all cities who share our ambition on urban food production.

As a catalyst, the Foundation starts with the launch of its first documentary: The City and the Green Belt. It will be our first film about the subject and is aimed at starting the conversation about food-producing cities.

The Sustainable Urban Delta event with the official launch of the documentary will take place on 14 May 2020 @ 2.30 pm (CET) via live stream. Join:
